| Several of our field based studies have contributed to scientific knowledge: |
In 1981, we were the first in the whole world to give Multi-drug therapy for leprosy with Rifampicin 1500mgs once a month supervised & Clofazimine 50mgs & Dapsone 100mgs daily for cases that were highly positive & for those not responding to the conventional Dapsone mono-therapy in those days. |
In 1988, we proved the efficacy of an “Integrated Health Service in the Epidemiology of leprosy” |
In 1988, we also showed in a comparative study that Rifampicin 1500mgs as opposed to the WHO dose of 600mgs is more effective resulting in a faster cure, less reactions & less relapse. |
In 1989, we were also the first to describe the “Flu-syndrome” in intermittent once monthly by Rifampicin therapy. |
In 1992, Dapsone induced peripheral motor poly neuropathy in leprosy was reported for the first time. |
In 1993, we reported on the use of “Topical Phenytoin “as an adjunct in the healing of leprosy tropic ulcers. |
In 1993, two papers were produced: 1) Towards Affordable Cataract surgery in rural India. 2) Ophthalmic Headache.
. |
In 1995, we also presented a paper on “An Evaluation of the Future Role of NGOs working in Leprosy” |
In 1996, a paper was produced on ECE cataract surgery done cheaply, quickly & well |
